The Road To Freedom And The Birth Of The Rashtra: 1940 – 1950
The concluding session of The Path to Rashtra is on
26th September 2020
from 3.00 p.m to 4.30 p.m.
In this concluding session, we will explore the dramatic
political developments of this period - How partition was irresponsibly
implemented with the connivance of various actors. The birth of two nations and
the horrific bloodshed and hatred that it perpetrated, which continues to this
day!
We see rebellions across various parts of India, coming
together unified in their demand for complete and total independence from
British rule. This movement reaches its peak with the Quit India of 1942
followed by the military intervention in the northeast by the Indian National
Army led by Subhash Chandra Bose.
The Second World War had reduced Britain’s economic and
political clout across the world. It was now a foregone conclusion that Britain
could no longer continue to be an imperial power anywhere.
On 15 August 1947, British India was separated into two. Two new dominions were born: India and Pakistan. The tryst with destiny that the Indian people had dreamt of culminated in the birth of the Indian Rashtra, on 26 January 1950.
